Classic Crackles© are glazes that are designed to “craze”; that is, develop subtle surface cracks in the finished glaze.
To fill and highlight the cracks, add an ink or acrylic to the ware after glaze firing then wipe it off.
These glazes are NOT dinnerware safe due to the crackle of the glaze.
Cone 06 oxidation (second photo): Creates a transparent cracked surface and allows underlying designs to show through. Cone 6 oxidation (third photo): More defined crackle pattern – does not take ink/stain. Cone 06 (fourth image): Creates a white cracked surface and allows underlying designs to show through. Cone 6 (fifth image): Finer crackles – does not take ink/stain. Added pink variation. Increased mobility. Cone 06 (sixth image): Creates a green cracked surface and allows underlying designs to show through. Cone 6 (seventh image): Color lightens. More defined crackle pattern – does not take ink/stain. Increased mobility. Cone 06 (eighth image): Creates a teal cracked surface and allows underlying designs to show through. Cone 6 (ninth image): Color lightens. More defined crackle pattern – does not take ink/stain. Increased mobility. TIP: After firing, wipe an acrylic or ink over the ware and wipe off, allowing the ink to fill and highlight the cracks.”
