Flambé is a copper red glaze with tones of purple and blue that gives the same results in oxidation as a traditional reduction copper glaze. Flambé breaks clear on edges or where thin. Cara, a glazing specialist at AMACO, recently posted a series of 3 videos that specifically addresses the challenges of their two new copper red based glazes in the PC series, PC-70 Copper Red and PC-71 Flambè, with tips and helpful hints on how to apply the glaze to get the best possible results. (SMUGS) Semi-Moist Underglaze
Set #112 includes the Red, Bright Yellow, Chartreuse, Warm Green, Aqua, Medium Blue, White, and Black colors of the Semi-Moist Underglazes. The SMUG's are formulated to respond similarly to being brushed like watercolors- becoming more opaque with layered application and more transparent after water is added. They can be blended and diluted to achieve a wide variety of effects.
Autumn: Cone 06: A transparent clear glaze with colorful orange, yellow and brown specks that will change the look with different base glazes. Cone 6: Color Specks fade and begin to flow. TIP: Chips shown over SC-41 Brown Cow and unglazed bisque.
Cone 06 oxidation (second photo): PC-601 Clear Cascade produces a more flowing effect and allows the color of the base glaze to show through. It can also alter your original color, creating a new color. It will form runs or you can direct the runs when you apply the product.
Cone 6 oxidation (third photo): Transparent with Crazing. Color clear with a slight tint of light blue.
Cone 06 oxidation (forth photo): PC-602 White Cascade intermingles with the other glazes being used, introducing pure white to the colors you are using, blending with the color.
Cone 6 oxidation (fifth photo): Transparent. Color clear with white float.
TIP: Chip shown over EL-118 Blue Grotto. PC-602 White Cascade has a minimum movement and will stay in the pattern that you apply it in.
Application on bisque ware or leather hard or greenware. Bone dry pots can be very delicate and susceptible to breaking so it's not advised to apply transfers at this point, but it's possible. Hold the oxide bearing side of the decal against the pot. Stroke paper with wet brush to transfer. You might need to use a rubber rib to transfer 100% of the oxide from the paper to pot. Peel away the paper.
