The company once began as dream of his and business partner Wayne Higby of Alfred University, USA back in the mid-1990’s. The pair envisioned the first international ceramic art centre that would provide the artist community opportunities to develop and exchange their craft, while exploring Chinese culture and techniques.

The search for a suitable site led to the outskirts of Jingdezhen; known as the world centre of porcelain production and historical porcelain artifacts. For centuries the Sanbao Valley has been the source of Chinese porcelain clay used by potters from around the world. Traditionally the stones were crushed by water-powered hammer mills which can still be found along it’s beautiful terrain today. A group of farm houses were restored and chosen as the main site for the future art centre. Since then the site has expanded to not only house residence but to also have an on-site restaurant.

Throughout the years Sanbao Studio has continued to innovate the pottery industry, share ideas and collaborate with artists.

When Jackson isn’t at the studio he can be found traveling with fellow residents to local museums, visiting antique markets or educating the community about Jingdezhen's porcelain history.
