Reciprocal Studio Program

We are excited to support you and your business growth in a responsible and ethical manner and hope to receive your reciprocity in that mission through loyalty and honesty.  We have put together three program levels for area studios with special pricing to encourage growth of the ceramic arts in the communities within our region (currently including Kansas City, Topeka, Manhattan, Omaha/Lincoln in Nebraska and Columbia, Missouri)

We hope this allows you to augment accessibility of supplies to a wider geographic area while keeping those dollars local and continuing to stimulate our region.  Meanwhile, our mission is to maintain adequate stock from all of the many manufacturers we represent so that we can fill your shelves when needed. We take our service to the community very seriously.  We give back where we can, help to support keeping clay in schools and in the community as much as possible and be a reliable source of quality products, service and information.

Through this program, we are happy to have you join us in these endeavors and ask that you not seek direct relationships with any of the manufacturers for products you are purchasing.  This will allow us all to do what we do best.

Mayco Stoneware Engobes Usage

GENERAL USE

Stir well. Using a soft fan brush, apply 2-3 coats to wet clay, greenware or soft fired, cone 04 bisque (1940°F/1060°C). Allow the glaze to dry between each coat. If desired, apply 2-3 coats of another glaze overtop. Fire to preferred temperature; cone 5-10 (2167°F-2345°F / 1186°C-1285°C).

The Engobes will not stick to kiln shelves when 2 coats are applied, heavier application may cause the glaze to flux. Results can vary based on the kiln wash you have applied to your shelves. Testing is recommended.

SGRAFFITO

”To scratch” in Italian, sgraffito is produced by applying two layers of Engobes and 2-3 coats of another glaze and carving through the glaze to create depth and add contrast to your designs. An impactful and dramatic way to use Engobes in your studio.

DESIGN TECHNIQUES

Engobes are incredibly stable and opaque in design work and work well in a variety of design techniques such as majolica silkscreening marbling, and wax resist. The integrity of your design will remain unchanged as engobes will not move or combine with surrounding colors.

USE ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR WARE

The engobes will not stick to kiln shelves when 2 coats are applied, heavier application may cause the glaze to flux. Results can vary based on the kiln wash you have applied to your shelves, so we suggest testing before use.

BLENDING & INTERMIXABILITY

Mix Engobes to create something new; use brushstrokes to blend colors and create shading; layer them without concern of intermixing – great for Majolica – add thin lines and details with confidence as Engobes will NOT move.

WOODGRAIN TECHNIQUE

Use Engobes to create different textures such as woodgrain.  INSTRUCTIONS
