Charcoal is a reformulation of Obsidian that is made to better withstand higher temps (∆6)
Fired Shrinkage is 13% and Water Absorption is 2% when fired to cone 5/6. Our newest addition is a medium grit black body without the issues of bloating! Works well with most glazes and provides a beautiful black base for decoration.

It can be very expensive to ship just a couple of boxes of clay. UPS and FedEx charge a LOT for a 50# box of clay. It's almost always more than the cost of the clay, and can be more $50 per box. The cost per pound of clay goes down when you ship 500# or more via a freight company. If you can order with a friend or several friends (or art teacher where schools are concerned) you can both save quite a bit of money.
